I’d like to tell you a little about the new program that I am involved in. It is called CommonGround and I was asked to be a spokeswoman for it. I don’t have a lot of info on it yet, but I’m heading to training next week, so will have more to report during/after that.
The National Corn Growers Association and United Soybean Board teamed up together on this pilot program. They asked women who farm and are mothers to be spokeswomen for this program. Our goal is to reach out to urban consumers and help them understand what it’s like on a family farm and where their food comes from. In Iowa, we will launch this program in Des Moines in February and then each spokeswoman will have our own events back in our respective areas.
I think this is a great opportunity to get more involved in the agriculture community and get the word out about family farms, what they are like, what we put into our farms, what life is like on a farm and how we produce good, quality food to people around the world.
Once I have more info about this, I will let you know! Stay tuned!
