Calving season has begun at the Ross farm in Southwest Iowa! Our first three calves were born this past weekend. The first one came early Saturday morning and Kevin found it when he went out to do chores that morning. It was a little chilled, so he put her and her momma in the barn to warm up. They are doing just fine now!
The second calf was also a heifer calf and was born Saturday during the night. And the third calf was a bull calf and he was born on Sunday afternoon. All three are hanging out in the pasture with their mommas and a few other heifers. So far, none of the cows have needed assistance calving, so that is good!
On Sunday, I wanted to go out and take a few pictures of the new calves and it wasn’t too bad outside, so we bundled HD up and took him with us. Below are some pictures of our outing!

HD meeting his first calf! Last year he was just a newborn so we kept him inside. So this is his first time around the calves! He only seemed somewhat interested, but I’m sure that will change! |
