More calves! And a Momma To Be Watched!

March 17, 2011 By Sara

Four more baby calves have been born at our farm this week, bringing the total to seven so far this year!  The weather has been really nice, warm and dry, making it ideal for calving.  I really hope we are done with the snow for this year!  It’s been in the 60-70s (which is a little warmer than normal) and we are really enjoying it!

We have a heifer (Tag 32-15) that is over due and Kevin thought it looked like she was struggling a little bit, so he called the vets to have them come check her out.

After checking her, Doc H said that the calf wasn’t too big, it wasn’t in position just yet and that she’s not really dilated much, so we are just going to wait awhile longer and hopefully she will have the calf on her own.  When he checked her bag for milk, he noticed that there was a little bit of blood in her bag.  Doc thinks that we will have a bottle calf on our hands when he or she is born.  We’re hoping not, but we’ll see!  Stay tuned!
