Planting Corn in Southwest Iowa

May 7, 2011 By Sara

Last night my husband finished planting corn!  Well, technically it was about 1am this morning, but he’s done!
Now on to soybeans!
Well, maybe a nap first.  He’s been going going going all week.  It’s been early mornings and late nights.  One night he planted until 4am and he only quite because a wire broke.  But since he got started later than he would have liked due to the rain and the wet/cold ground, he was in a hurry to get it all planted while it was dry this week.
Below is a video that I took last night along with some pictures.  HD was riding in the tractor with his daddy while I took these.  I hope everyone else is having a success planting season!  Make sure and take it easy.  Like my dad says, “there is always another day!”

Planting on top of the hill.

Our terraced land.

Don’t I look nice and tall!
This is already planted ground.

Planting along a terrace.

Like our nice straight rows???
Sunset planting.

Looking down a row.  In no time there will be little green
plants sprouting up through the soil!
