Ok, we finally settled on a name for our new puppy. It only took us three days, but her official name is Ross’ Liberty Trice. We will call her Libby. I originally liked Macy, but Kevin wanted to name her something related to the Iowa State Cyclones since we got her right after their big win over Iowa this past Saturday. I originally vetoed anything ISU related because I knew that Kevin wouldn’t let me name her anything Husker related. So we threw around a few names, but nothing seemed right. One name that Kevin thought of was Noodle. I vetoed that so fast!
Anyways, I turned to my Facebook friends for some help. Here are the suggestions that they came up with: Lexi, Maggie, Reagan, Zoey, Piper, Steele, Cy, Maud, Laney, Ruby, Gracey, Lucy, Rosie, Mimi, Spike, Houch, Dozer, Dirthead, Jaws, The Bizzo, Maizey, Gee, Lola, Grace, Liberty, Hazel.
Obviously the one that stood out was Liberty, which was suggested by Grandpa Dan. I liked that we could shorten it to Libby (or Libby Lou, which our friend Peg suggested), but still was a meaningful name. She was born on July 1st (close to Independence Day) and we got her on September 10th, the night before the 10th anniversary of 9/11. And of course Trice is after Jack Trice Stadium where the Iowa State Cyclones beat the Iowa Hawkeyes in the third overtime. I originally said no ISU names, but I gave in. We will never call her that (unless she’s in major trouble and we use her full name) and I don’t think that Kevin would have gave into any name otherwise. BUT if we ever get another dog, you know darn well that he or she will have a Husker name!
HD is still not sure about her. One minute he is laughing at what she is doing and the next he is crying because she is sniffing/licking him. It won’t be long before they are the best of friends though!
She’s been really good about staying in our yard. She will follow us across to Grandma Marian’s house, but she lives right next door. I’m sure once Libby has Marian figured out, she will go visit her a lot! Our last female American Bulldog that we had always went to visit Marian because she knew that if she wined outside of her door that she would let her in. AND Marian would give her food to eat, anything from scraps to cookies! Can you say spoiled! So it is just a matter of time before Libby has her figured out too!
Last night Libby saw the cows for the first time. We have cattle that are right next to our yard in a field and when I am out in my garden they come over to the fence to see what I’m up to and to see if I have anything yummy from my garden that I want to share with them. Last night HD and I picked up a few apples that had fallen from our trees and gave them to the cows. Libby walked right under the fence like she wasn’t scared at all. But I told her to come and she did! Not sure if she’s a fast learner or if it was the cows that are like 1000 times bigger than her, but she listened!
Last night after we got the tomato plants covered in the garden, HD wanted to swing. So we started out in the “baby” swing but then he wanted down. So I got him out of it and he went straight to the “big kid” swing. So we gave it a try. And he did really well! He’s just growing up so fast! I had to buy him new shoes yesterday. Well, actually I bought him new shoes on Tuesday from Target because he needed something warmer than sandals since it was suppose to only be 58 degrees yesterday and today. I bought him a size 5 tennis shoe and when I got them home they were too small. So he had to wear socks with his sandals yesterday to day care. Then I took those shoes back and got size 6 shoes and boots. They look soooo big when I’ m holding them in my hand, but fit him pretty good!
Well, that’s all right now about HD and Libby. Tomorrow I’ll have a crop update and possibly another ag related article. So stay tuned!
Have you gotten a new pet lately? What did you name them? Was it hard to decide on a name? Love to hear what you decided on!
lol. naming the dog something ISU related isn’t so bad. My husband wanted to name our boys Seneca (after Seneca WAllace – former cyclone quarterback.)
