Mommy Mondays: Staying Active at 26 Weeks

August 21, 2012 By Sara

This pregnancy has been a little different from when I was pregnant with HD.  Since he was born in March, I was pregnant through the fall and winter and it was the worst winter we had in a long, long time.  That year it started snowing on October 10th and didn’t stop til the spring.  We got snowed in/out  of our house four different times.  Needless to say, I wasn’t very active during that fall and winter.
This time around I feel is a lot different.  First of all, I have a two year old to chase around.  And I’m also pregnant through the summer and fall.  Saturday night, I did my third 5K walk with my sisters.  It was the Glow Run in Omaha and was a lot of fun!  There were some crazy costumes, but since it was a little chilly that evening, us three girls were dressed in long sleeves and long pants for the race.

Gardening has also kept me busy/active this summer.  Even though it’s been an extremely dry summer, my garden is producing a lot!  I’m basically down to my 21 tomato plants and all my pepper plants.  It’s fun coming up with some new recipes to try and can (more on in a different post!).

Another thing that has kept us busy this past week was the Iowa State Fair.  Kevin had the opportunity to participate in Governor’s Charity Steer Show so we made the trip to Des Moines for that day.

Of course we had to have corn dogs and
fresh squeezed lemonade at the fair.

HD had to run off a little energy
before the steer show.

Some how Kevin wound up showing a steer named Cy.  How appropriate!  He didn’t win, but he had a great time.  It was a fun experience and did a great job handling Cy who was a little rowdy at some points!

This past Friday was Iowa Corn Day at the State Fair.  I worked at the Corn Grower’s booth for a few hours and then Kevin and I walked around with some good friends of ours, Harry and Lonni.  We had to take our picture in the Corn Grower booth before we left.  Unfortunately they didn’t have a Herbie Husker to add to the picture!

Before I get to the exciting part of today, I have to tell you a quick story that my mother-in-law just told me over the phone.  Last night everyone was over helping load cattle from the other farm to bring them home.  HD went along for the ride while I stayed home since I was in the middle of canning.  Anyways, at one point, HD saw a little heifer calf start peeing.  He said, “that calf go potty all by itself!”  Then he raised his fists above his head and yelled, “YEAH!”  Only a kid who is potty training himself, could get that excited over a calf going to the bathroom!  Haha!  His Grandma Rhonda and Aunt Nancy got a good chuckle out of that!
Today we went in for a check-up and the 3D ultrasound.  Everything is looking great and the little one cooperated so we could get a few pictures of him or her.  The umbilical cord was floating up by their face in some of the pictures, but these are the best ones.  He or she also had hiccups while we were doing the ultrasound.  You could see their little mouth open each time.  We didn’t have this opportunity to have a 3D ultrasound with HD, so this was really interesting to see this little one!

Next week will be the beginning of the third trimester already and that means more frequent doctor’s appointments.  I’m sure these next 13 weeks or so will just fly by!
