Mommy Mondays: 2013 Goals

January 7, 2013 By Sara

My little assistant.

Hello everyone and happy New Year (a few days late)!  It’s been awhile, I know, but hopefully I’ll be back on a more regular basis now!  I’ve been on a so-called “maternity leave” since AJ was born, which did include working almost from the start, but it was from home, so that was nice.  I was able to spend some good quality time with AJ and HD also!

Best friends.

As I was driving to work this morning I was listening to Prime Country on XM radio and Letting Go by Suzy Bogguss came on the radio.  I looked in the mirror at my two little guys in the back seat and just about teared up.  (If you don’t know the lyrics, they are at the bottom of this blog post.)  I know my boys are only 2 (almost 3) years old and 7 weeks old, but boy has it flown by!  Before I know it, they will be packing up to head to college.  :'(

On that teary note, I have jotted down some goals that I want to shoot for this year, both personally and blog-related.  With our busy lives and two little ones, it’s going to be one crazy year!  Here they are in no particular order:

Personal Goals
  • Spend more quality family time together.  I’d like to spend more time doing fun things together, like going to the zoo or the children’s museum, visiting a new place together, playing games together at home, etc.

Daddy & HD’s little snowman.  The snow wasn’t sticking
together very well!

  • Workout.  Get back to my pre-HD weight.  Eat healthier, workout a few times a week, compete in Live Healthy Nebraska through work.
  • Become more organized.  Schedule weekly meals, workouts, blog posts, etc to help hold me accountable.
  • Grow my shop on Etsy.  Sara Ross Designs.  Create more designs and upload to my shop.  (Bridal invites, Baby announcements, Holiday cards, Thank You’s, Birthday invites, etc)

Blog Goals
  • Plan my blog posts.  Sit down at the beginning of each month and plan out my posts for the entire month.  Don’t try to do too many.  2-4 per week.  Leave room for additional posts.
  • Touch on a variety of topics.  Recipes, Farm, Family, Crafts/Projects, Hot Topics, etc
  • Weekly recommendations. (favorite baby products, favorite blogs, favorite ___, etc)
  • Link to other blogs.  Help drive traffic to other blogs and hopefully get some new readers to my blog too.
  • Incorporate Pinterest more with my blog posts.  Would love to get a Pin In! button on my website to help promote pinning my posts on Pinterest.
  • Add Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Pinterest buttons to my blog.
  • Give my blog a make-over.  Buy my own URL and set up my blog with a more appealing layout.

Watching a movie on the iPad together.
Letting Go by Suzy Bogguss

She’ll take the painting in the hallway,
The one she did in jr. high
And that old lamp up in the attic,
She’ll need some light to study by.

She’s had 18 years to get ready for this day
She should be past the tears, she cries some anyway

Oh oh letting go
There’s nothing in the way now,
Oh letting go, there’s room enough to fly
And even though, she’s spent her whole life waiting,
It’s never easy letting go.

Mother sits down at the table
So many things she’d like to do
Spend more time out in the garden
Now she can get those books read too.

She’s had 18 years to get ready for this day
She should be past the tears, she cries some anyway.

Oh oh letting go
There’s nothing in the way now,
Oh letting go, there’s room enough to fly
And even though, she’s spent her whole life waiting,
It’s never easy letting go.

Oh oh letting go
There’s nothing in the way now,
Oh letting go, there’s room enough to fly
And even though, she’s spent her whole life waiting,
It’s never easy letting go.

Oh, this makes me cry! My kids just turned 7 and 5 in the last two months, and I can’t believe they aren’t babies any more.

Don’t overwhelm yourself with too much on your to do list. I’m a list maker, and I kill myself trying to accomplish it all (and never do anyway), and then I wonder why I didn’t spend more time with my family. I notice that the first two items on your list are about you and your family. As long as you stick to those items of importance, the rest won’t really matter in the end.

Sorry for getting “preachy”! I think I’m really just giving myself a pep talk here! Have a great year, whatever you accomplish!
