Every few years or so, my dad goes up to Alaska to go fishing at Tanaku Lodge. Kevin’s gotten to go with him a couple of times and has kept our freezer stocked with halibut and king salmon. I love to eat both of those types of fish and there are so many different ways to prepare them! This is one of my favorite ways to make salmon and its quick and easy too!

Kevin and a king salmon |
This recipe is adapted from Tanaku Lodge’s Grilled Salmon recipe:
Grilled Salmon with Onions
Ingredients:
2 T. butter
1 onion, thinly sliced
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 t. garlic salt
1 T. brown sugar
1/4 c. light soy sauce
1 T. lemon juice
Salmon
Take two large pieces of foil and fold three of the edges together to form a pouch to slide the salmon into. Spray the inside of the foil pouch well with nonstick cooking spray.
Thaw your salmon if it’s frozen.
Melt butter in a skillet. Add onions and cook until they become tender.
Add the Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, brown sugar and light soy sauce. Cook for a minute or two until the brown sugar has dissolved.
Then add the lemon juice. Remove from the heat.
Place the salmon in the foil pouch and pour the onion sauce over the top. Close the 4th edge of the foil and either bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes* or on the grill for about the same time.
*Cooking time all depends on the size and thickness of your salmon. Check it occasionally. You want it to be light pink and flaky.
Note: I placed the salmon in the pouch with the skin still on. As you can see from the picture, I place it skin-side down. When you are ready to serve it, the skin should fall/peel right off.
I like to serve this salmon with a side of mashed potatoes and broccoli. Enjoy!
Yum! I love salmon, too, and I’m so jealous — you get to eat salmon that your husband or dad caught themselves!!! Your recipe looks so easy and so good…I can’t wait to try it. And if HD is eating it, maybe my kids will too — that’s always the toughest test. Thanks for sharing the recipe,
Mindy
