A new survey, called Gate-to-Plate, was recently conducted and it surveyed more that 1,000 moms. It was commissioned by CommonGround, a grassroots movement of farm women who want to foster conversations with their urban counterparts about where our food comes from and how it is raised.
The results showed that American moms may be building their grocery lists based on misinformation. It definitely tells us that there is confusion when it comes to food topics such as GMO foods, organic foods, family farms, etc. Below are three infographics of the findings from this survey. My goal over the next several weeks is to chose a topic from this survey that consumers are misinformed about and write a Topic Tuesday blog post. So please be watching for those! If you have any questions in the meantime, please leave them in the comment section below!
I absolutely agree with the fact that not all moms (or consumers, for that matter) truly understand the full meaning behind some of these labels, which, while informing consumers, also serve a marketing purpose. One thing that is missing from this list, though, is antibiotics. That’s a confusing area to me, because I hear a variety of information on that topic. So if you could address the use of antibiotics (especially in chicken and pork production) in your upcoming posts, it would be most helpful!
Thanks for sharing another side of the discussion!

Thanks for the comment! I’ll work on an antibiotic post for you soon!
