4th of July Weekend

July 8, 2013 By Sara

Oh, what a crazy busy 4th of July weekend we had!  It started out on the morning of the 4th.  Kevin had volunteered our Pottawattamie County Corn and Soybean Growers Association to be the Underwood, IA parade coordinators.  So we were in charge of registering all the floats, getting them lined up and announcing them.  It was crazy at times, but we made it through and we hear that it was a great parade!

After the parade we had to finish getting ready for our 4th of July party that night at our house.  The night before Kevin and I had smoked some Boston Butts on our Big Green Egg and they turned out great!  As you can see on the stove, we pulled them off the grill at 1:06 am.  Talk about a late night!

Friends started showing up around 5 pm and we had about 60-70 people stop by throughout the night.  There were pork sandwiches and we also had our friend Luke smoke a bunch of BBQ ribs for us.  We ask that everyone brings a side or dessert and we provide the rest.

AJ found a new friend, Marla.

Every year there are more and more kids at our party.  It’s so much fun to watch them all running around and playing together.  When it got dark, they all sat together (for a little bit) to watch some fireworks.  Since we live on top of a hill, we have a good view of a bunch of towns’ fireworks from our backyard.  (Notice Diesel in the picture below.  He had a blast with all the kids!)

The kids all got different colored glow sticks; this was really nice once it got dark out, we could tell which kid was our’s!

The party was great and we got to see a lot of our really good friends and neighbors!

Friday we spent cleaning up from the party, napping, playing outside, eating supper at Dairy Queen and playing in the park.

HD was tired I guess, but AJ wasn’t!

Saturday morning, I headed out to my parent’s house on the lake with the boys for some fun on the boat.

AJ, my little stinker, has all of a sudden to grow up and not be a baby any more.  :'(  Just three weeks ago he figured out how to Army crawl.  Then he moved right into crawling and getting around all over the house.  Which then led to him getting into stuff that he shouldn’t.  Then last week he decided to start pulling himself up on furniture.  While at my parent’s house this past weekend, I have witnessed him taking a few steps around furniture and also trying to go from the ottoman to his jumper by himself.  He didn’t make it, but it won’t be long before he’s walking I have a feeling!  HD took his first steps when he was 8 1/2 months old.  AJ will be 8 months on the 19th.  I have a feeling he’ll be walking just as soon as his brother did!

So that was our crazy, busy 4th of July weekend!  Did you have a good holiday weekend?  Do you feel like you need to take a few extra days off just to recover from your vacation?   I do!  Here’s to another busy week!  Have a good one!
