Baked or Grilled Walleye

July 19, 2013 By Sara

It’s summertime and that means fresh walleye for us.  My parents live on a lake and my dad loves to fish.  I used to go fishing with him quite a bit when I was little, but now HD gets to catch all the big ones with him!  Kevin also gets to go every year with some college buddies and between him and my dad we have a few packages of walleye in our freezer.  Yum!

Here is a really quick and easy way to prepare it.  (The best way in my opinion is to fry it, but I didn’t have time to do that the other night when I made it for supper.)
Baked or Grilled Walleye

Ingredients

6 fillets of walleye (or another fish)
Non-stick cooking spray
Garlic salt
Seasoning salt
Pepper
1 lemon

Directions1.  You can either bake this in the oven or grill it.  If you are baking it, set your oven to 350 degrees and spray non-stick cooking spray onto a glass pan.  If you are grilling it, take two pieces of heavy duty foil and make a pouch to place the fish in.  Spray the inside well with cooking spray.  (The next steps will all be the same whether you are baking or grilling it.)

2.  Place the fish into the pan or foil pouch.

3. Sprinkle on the garlic salt, seasoning salt and pepper to taste.

4.  Cut a lemon in half.  With one half, squeeze the juice over the fish.  Slice the other half and place the sliced lemon on top of the fish.

5.  Place in the oven or on the grill and cook for approximately 20 minutes.  (This will very depending on the thickness of the fish.  Fish should be cooked until the internal temperate reaches 145 degrees.  Also check for flakiness.)  Enjoy!

I’ve always had pan-fried walleye so I’m looking forward to trying it baked. Making it tonight!

Let me know what you think! It’s so easy! I love pan-fried too, but this was a great way to change it up! 🙂
