Discussing GMOS on National Television

December 18, 2013 By Sara

Well, the day has almost arrived (tomorrow) where I speak with Danielle Knox on The Balancing Act, Lifetime Network’s morning talk show, about genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and biotechnology!  If you remember, back in October four of us CommonGround ladies traveled to Florida to tape our segments.  Kristin Reese and Mary Courtney’s segments have already aired and they were great!

I will be one of their segments tomorrow morning starting at 6am CST.  Here is a link to a clip and overview for my GMO segment.

On the show, I will discuss what GMOs and biotechnology actually are and what they mean in regards to the food that we eat.  I’ll discuss the concerns that consumers have and the benefits that GMOs provide to us as consumers and to the environment.  I’ll touch on some myths and misconceptions and also the safety of GMOs.

I’ve talked about GMOs on my blog in the past, but plan to dive a little deeper in the near future!  I’ll do a follow up post to my interview tomorrow.  But for now, I’ll leave you with this infographic.  It shows how much time and money is put into getting a genetically modified seed to market.  It takes about 13 years and $136 million and has to pass the FDA, EPA and the USDA’s inspection processes before it can ever be sold to a farmer to plant.

If you have any questions about GMOs or biotechnology, please leave them in the comment section below or email me at sarashousehd@gmail.com.  I’ll be sure to include them in my next GMO post!  Thanks!
