Grandma Sharri’s Goulash

December 12, 2013 By Sara

Do you guys have a go-to family dinner that you can whip up real quick during the week when you’re short on time?  Pasta in general would be that meal for me.  My boys love pretty much any type of pasta and for me it’s quick and easy to make.

HD’s favorite pasta would be Grandma Sharri’s goulash.  I don’t make it that often at home because Grandma Sharri usually makes it for HD when we go out there to visit, but the other day Kevin was at a meeting, and I wanted something fast to make when I got home with the boys after work.  I asked HD what he would like and he said, “goulash like Grandma Sharri makes.”

Ok, easy enough!  I like to serve a side of green beans with the goulash, which both of my boys love.  I swear they could both eat at least a pint by themselves!  And they are only one and three years old!  What’s it going to be like when they are teenagers!

This recipe is especially easy for me to make because I have a LOT of canned tomatoes and green beans on hand and we recently had a steer butchered, so I have plenty of hamburger in the freezer.  So the only thing that I had to get out of the panty is a box of macaroni!

Ingredients
1 lb ground hamburger
8 ounces of shell or elbow macaroni
2 (14.5 oz) cans of crushed tomatoes, drain most of the liquid
1 teaspoon of garlic powder
1 heaping tablespoon of dried onion flakes
3/4 teaspoon of garlic salt

Directions
To begin, brown the hamburger in a skillet.

While the hamburger is cooking, bring a large pot of water to a boil, add the garlic powder and dried onion flakes and cook the macaroni according to the directions on the package.

In a smaller pot, heat the green beans.

When the macaroni is cooked, drain the water and then added the crushed tomatoes.  Mix well.

When the hamburger is cooked, drain off any excess grease if there is any.  Add the garlic salt to the hamburger and mix well.

Then add the hamburger to the pasta and tomatoes and mix well.

Serve immediately to hungry children!  This recipe is so easy and takes less than 20 minutes to make!  Perfect for when you are short on time!

I asked HD if it was as good as Grandma Sharri’s and he said yes!  Yeah!  Even AJ liked it!

After they cleaned their plates, we got to eat some chocolate chip cookies that I made the other day.  Of course HD has to dip it in his milk just like his daddy!
