2014, Birthday, and Goals

January 22, 2014 By Sara

I’ve been putting off this post for the whole month of January so far.  🙂  Not sure why, other than I just haven’t taken the time to sit down and write it out.  Since today is my birthday, I thought it would be the perfect time to discuss my thoughts and goals for the year!

It’s been a whirlwind of a year so far.  Kevin and I were in Mexico for a few days the beginning of January.  It was a great time to get away since it was during that bitter cold snap that most of the US experienced.  Unfortunately Mexico was getting some of that too!  All but one day was rainy, cloudy, and cool.  Top that off with Kevin getting sick and it was quite the trip.  We did get to hang out with some of my family and some good friends from back home, so that made up for some of the cruddy weather!

After that trip, Kevin was in full meeting/conference mode.  It seems like winter and summer are the prime times for all the agriculture related organizations to have their meetings.  So Kevin’s been attending National Corn meetings, Iowa Corn meeting, and biodiesel meetings and conferences.  Busy busy!
I also get in on some of those meetings/conferences and I am looking forward to my CommonGround conference that is coming up soon!  Thinking about all of these meetings and all the information and knowledge that we will gain at them, it makes me glad to be doing what we do.  Agriculture is a BIG part of both of our lives AND our future.
On that note, today is my 31st birthday.  Looking back on this past year I feel like I’ve really grown as a person, wife, and mother.  I’ve learned a lot over the past year, not only about agriculture as I mentioned above, but about myself too.  A year ago one of my goals was to get into shape and get healthier.  Well finally in September last year I put that in motion.  I feel more healthy now than I have in a long time.  A lot of that has to do with Advocare and learning how to lead a healthier lifestyle.  So a goal of mine is to continue down that road this year.  I feel like it’s going to be a great year!
There are also a number of little things that I’d love to tackle this year:
  • Make and finish a jean quilt
  • Refinish the metal desk that I got for Kevin’s shop office
  • Make a t-shirt rug for the boys’ room
  • Blog on a more consistent basis
  • Be more organized with my blog posts
  • Learn some basic coding
Also, quality family time is a big thing for me.  I love my little guys and they are just growing up so fast.  I know we don’t get these years back, so we need to make the most of our time right now.  I’m hoping we can go on another family vacation together again like we did last year.  Also, just some quality time reading and playing together is something that I love and look forward to.
2014 is already starting off to be a great year and I look forward to the opportunities, challenges, and anything else that comes our way this year!  Here’s to a fantastic 2014!
