Cooking Eggs in Stoneware

February 12, 2014 By Sara

Two of my Christmas gifts from my boys last year were two Egg Cookers made out of stoneware from D2 Pottery in downtown Omaha.  The Saturday before Christmas, Kevin and HD ventured out to finish up their Christmas shopping.  The Old Market in downtown Omaha has some really unique shops, and Kevin and HD decided to check out a pottery one.  HD picked out these egg cookers all by himself.  I pretty sure they were more for him than me, but it’s the thought that counts!
It didn’t take us long to give these a try.  And let me just say, it is the easiest and fastest way to make a scrambled egg…ever.  You can cook the eggs any way you want (scrambled, over easy, etc), but I’ve only ever done scrambled in this stoneware.
First you start by spraying the cooker with cooking spray.  Next crack 1-2 eggs in a bowl (you can actually do this right in the stoneware if you don’t want to dirty an extra dish!).  HD just loves to crack eggs.  He’s getting pretty good at it!

Next step is to add any meats or veggies if you want to make an omelet.  We just added some cooked bacon to it this morning.  You can also add any salt and pepper or other seasonings at this time too.

Pour the egg mixture into the stoneware (if it’s not already).

Place the lid on top and then put it into the microwave.  The directions say to cook 1 egg for about 45 seconds to 1 minute and 2 eggs for about 1-1 1/2 minutes.  Two scrambled eggs in our microwave takes 1 minute and 10 seconds.  (Unscrambled eggs will take a little longer to cook.)

When it’s done cooking, carefully put it out of the microwave.  The stoneware will be pretty warm, so be careful.

It should just slide right out onto a plate.  We topped our eggs with a little cheese and put it back in the microwave for about 5-10 seconds.  The eggs are very light and fluffy.  Better than scrambling them in a pan on the stove I think!  And soooo much easier too!  You could just eat it out of the stoneware so all you would be dirtying would be the stoneware and a fork!

What’s your favorite way to eat eggs?  AJ and I like scrambled best.  Kevin and HD eat theirs sunny side up usually.
