Here’s to Day 2 of the #write31day challenge. Surprisingly I’m still on track (as of right now!). Today’s travel secret is about upgrading your plane ticket using miles.
I recently had this tip told to me and think it’s a great idea! I personally think this is worth looking into when traveling overseas!
If you are a frequent flyer hopefully you have airline mileage cards so that you can earn miles for all your flights. The last time Kevin and I flew to Hawaii we did it for free with all the miles we had racked up! So if you don’t have mileage cards, sign up for them! They are free!
Next, when you are getting ready to look into flying overseas, what was suggested to me was that you purchase a regular economy seat and then use your miles to upgrade to a business or first class seat afterwards. Yes, you are still buying a seat, but you’re not paying the outrageous price of a business or first class seat! Some of those overseas flights are 12+ hours, so being able to upgrade to a more roomier seat is very welcomed! So you can go from accommodations like this:
To accommodations like this:
Definitely worth the upgrade for international flights! You have a larger space, you can lay down flat to sleep, you get LOTS of food and beverages included, and you can watch movies until your heart’s content. I’m definitely looking into this the next time we fly overseas! Can’t wait!
Great tip! I often redeem miles for flights but for some reason never thought of using them to upgrade
I thought it was too when I heard it! I’ve only used miles for a regular economy ticket, but for those long overseas flights it’s MUCH more enjoyable to upgrade! So paying for a regular ticket and using points to upgrade is the “cheapest” way to get that kind of ticket.
