The beautiful, majestic country of Ireland brings today’s travel secret. It was my favorite place that we stayed in while in Ireland on our honeymoon back in March of 2007. It’s called Dromoland Castle and it’s on the western side of Ireland near Shannon and the Cliffs of Moher. It is an absolutely beautiful castle that houses a five-star hotel. We were lucky enough to get a “mid-week deal” otherwise it would have been quite the splurge to stay there! Our overnight stay included a really fancy dinner (probably one of the fanciest ones I’ve ever had!) and also breakfast the next morning. Both were fabulous!

Here is a little more about the castle from their website:
With an extraordinary history stretching back to the 5th Century, Dromoland Castle was originally the ancestral home of one of the few families of Gaelic Royalty; direct descendants of Brian Boru, the High King of Ireland.
Approached by a meandering drive that passes acres of magnificent lawns, this luxury 5 Star Castle Hotel overlooks its own Championship Golf Course and a glistening lake which commands the panoramic beauty of the surrounds.
Seamlessly blending Old-World elegance with contemporary luxuries, Dromoland’s tradition of delivering impeccable, unobtrusive service is never compromised. Guests can relax under the careful attention of our staff and enjoy an exquisite selection of gourmet fine dining and delicious wines; unwind slowly in the Castle’s 5 Star luxury Health Spa or indoor heated pool; or enjoy a good book beside a crackling evening fire. Situated just 8 miles from Shannon International Airport, and regarded as one of the top luxury hotels Ireland has to offer, Dromoland Castle Hotel Ireland is the ideal base from which to explore the vibrant cities of Limerick and Galway; the magical Shannon region and Ireland’s rugged West Coast. Look no further than Dromoland Castle for 5 star castle accommodations Ireland.
The Dromoland Castle is beautiful both inside and out. We were there in March so the gardens weren’t at full bloom, but they were still so pretty! And the inside was everything I imagined a castle to be like. I wish I had more pictures, but I guess 7+ years ago I wasn’t into photography as much as I am today!
If you happen to be traveling to Ireland, you should try and stay at the Dromoland Castle! It’s definitely worth it! We wish we could have stayed longer there, but we had to head back to Dublin to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
Have you been to Ireland? What where some of your favorite places if you have been there? I can’t wait to go back some day!
