When I found out that I would be traveling to China, one of the things Kevin told me to do was to go get something custom-made. Um, OK, if you say so! China is known for some really neat things that you can bring home as souvenirs, like jade, silk, tea, etc., but something that is really neat to go and do is getting fitted for a specific piece of clothing, picking out the fabrics, and having it completely made especially for you in less than 48 hours for a fraction of the price that the same thing would cost back home!
I had mentioned that I was thinking about getting a navy blazer made to the other ladies, so we went back to the Silk Market in Beijing. When we got to the clothing store, Kristin and Jane decided they wanted one too! We discussed the price (buying more pieces gets you better deals!) and then got measured.
I had taken a few screenshots of other blazers that I had found on Pinterest so they could see what I was wanting. The sketch turned out really cute! We were all excited to see what the blazers would look like when they were finished.
We had to stop in the next morning for a quick fitting. They weren’t completely finished, but they needed to make sure it was fitting correctly, measure for the sleeve length, and that the button was in the correct spot. They told us they would be finished up with them the next morning.
So back to the Silk Market we went right before we headed to the airport that Saturday morning. All three of us loved them! It’s amazing how well they got them to fit! Way better than anything that I have bought in a store! And seriously, this blazer was half the price of a very similar black one that I recently bought at a store here at home.
I’m finally getting to wear it today for the first time! I love the navy color, it will go with a lot! I also picked out a light ivory/pink silky lining that you can see if I roll up the sleeves for a more casual look!
I highly recommend getting some clothes custom-made for yourself when traveling over to China or Tawain! Kevin’s had suits and dress shirts made in both countries. I can’t wait to go back! I’m thinking a wool winter jacket may be on my wish list next time!
If you could have anything custom-made what would you choose? They have so many fabrics and linings to choose from too! It’s crazy! And so much fun!

Wow, who knew! That’s a really neat idea.
Thanks Monica!
Love you new hair! And the blazer too.
Thanks Colleen! 🙂 Loved your Stitch Fix #3 too!
Very cute! I’ve been to Tawain but never thought of having something made there. When I was in India, however, I had a couple of Punjabi’s tailor made. And they were beautiful (as well as functional)!
That’s really neat Denise! I’ve not been to Taiwan yet, but hopefully sometime soon!
