Indoor Ideas for Cold Weather Birthday Parties

March 21, 2015 By Sara

Indoor Ideas for Cold Weather Children's Birthday Parties www.saras-house.com

Good Saturday morning!  I hope everyone’s weekend is off to a great start!  We recently celebrated Hudson’s 5th birthday.  Crazy!  How is my baby so grownup already?

Well every birthday for both of my boys I run into this dilemma–what to do for their birthday.  Since they both have “cold weather” birthdays (November and March) we are usually stuck doing a party indoors.  In the past we’ve always just had family come over (Axten’s 1st and 2nd birthday parties and Hudson’s 2nd, 3rd, and 4th birthday parties) and had some kind of themed party.  But this year since Hudson is in Pre-K he was wanting to invite his class to his party.  And there’s no way we can fit 18 kids plus our families into our house!

So I started looking at other places to hold his party.  Here is a list of options that I have complied from friends and ideas I found online.

Indoor Ideas for Cold Weather Birthday Parties

  • Local restaurant where you can reserve a room and an area where the kids can eat and play games
  • Indoor swimming pool
  • Bowling alley
  • Children’s museum
  • Sleepover (obviously this wouldn’t be for the whole class!)
  • Jump house
  • Reserve a room and tour at a local zoo
  • Rent a local movie theater (small town)
Hudson's 5th Birthday at a Movie Theater

Shout out to Grandma Sharri who made the cake and cupcakes! Thanks again!

We decided to rent our local movie theater (Phoenix Movie Theater in Neola, IA) and invite his whole class, basketball team, and family to watch a movie there.  To rent our local theater you just pay one set price and that includes pop and popcorn for as many as the theater holds.  This theater holds over 100 so I put on the invites that his classmates’ families and siblings were welcome to stay too!

We could also bring in our own movie, decorations, and birthday cake if we wanted too.  We started it at 1pm on Sunday and we were down and all cleaned up by 3:30.  This worked out great!

BIG HERO 6

We brought Big Hero 6 along to play at the theater and started with the movie first.  Then afterwards we sang happy birthday, ate cake, and Hudson opened his birthday presents.  Everyone had a great time!

As you can see in the pictures our theme was “Spider-Man”.  The boys are all about him, Batman, Superman, and all of the Avengers right now.  The super heroes have taken over our house!

Hudson & Axten

Well, that’s another birthday in the books.  I still can’t believe Hudson’s 5 already!  What other ideas could I add to this list for “Indoor Ideas for Cold Weather Birthdays”?  I’d love to add any of your suggestions to the list above!  Just leave me a comment!  Have a great weekend!
