Ok, I’m just going to warn you that this is going to be a long, probably rambling, post. Mostly about my kiddos! 🙂
For starters, I want to say Happy Mother’s Day to each and every mother out there! I am so thankful for my babies. They definitely keep us on our toes, but I wouldn’t change things for anything in the world! All I can say is we definitely won the kiddo lottery!
I been thinking a lot lately about what it means to be a mommy, raising our kids on the farm, being a work at home mom, etc for a few reasons. One because Mother’s Day was coming up (and is now here), two because I’m working on a presentation that I will be giving this week to a group of ladies about what I’ve learned being a farm wife and mom, and three because I’ve been wanting to do a “Day in the Life” post for a while to help remind me what these crazy days are like with four young boys.
So I’m going to start with today, Mother’s Day. It started out with me getting up early and working out and then Kevin made us all breakfast. After that Kevin and the big boys headed out to plant corn. He’s planning on rolling until it rains. As of right now it’s suppose to start raining around midnight tonight.
While they were out planting corn, the twins and I were hanging out at home. I’m getting ready to leave in the morning for a conference for a few days, so I’ve been trying to get all the laundry washed and put away, my bag packed, presentation finalized, etc.
I decided to order pizza for supper to take to the field and then brought the boys homes, gave 4 baths, and took this picture before they all went to bed. That’s pretty much how I spent my Mother’s Day!
This presentation that I’m giving this week is about 5 things that I’ve learned while being a farm wife and mom. Some friends recommended that I create an iMovie to start my presentation and others also suggested that I use Prezi instead of Powerpoint. I’ve never used Prezi before, but it’s awesome! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that things run smoothly for the presentation since it’s my first time using that program! Here is the iMovie video that I created on my iPhone for the opening to my presentation:
And lastly, I’ve been wanting to do a Day in My Life for a while and have documented the last few days pretty well, so I’m going to show you what we were up to this past Friday. The beginning of this year I reduced my hours at work and became a “Work at Home Mom”. This has taken some major getting used as I used to drop the big boys off at school and daycare a few days a week. It seemed like I got some much done back then (i.e. work, blogging, yardwork, housework, grocery shopping was easy, etc). Now, Hudson gets on the school bus at 7:30 every morning and I’m home with Axten and the twins all day. So this means that I have to get up early to get some things done before they wake up. AND I have to make good use of nap time!
A Day in My Life-Friday, May 6th
My morning started out pretty normal when my alarm went off at 5am. I hit snooze once or twice and then got up and went downstairs to do my workout. I’ve been doing Beachbody’s Hammer & Chisel which is an 8-week workout program that you can do in the comfort of your own home. I’m just finishing up week 6 and have been getting some good results! It was #flexfriday, hence the picture below. 🙂
After that I got cleaned up and worked on my laptop for a little bit. Usually we get Hudson up for school at 6:30, but he didn’t have school that day. So the big boys slept in a little bit and the twins woke up and had their morning bottles. Kevin headed out the door to go plant while Hudson and Axten got up and got ready for the day.
I had a meeting at my office with a customer and I told the boys they could go with and we could go to the park afterwards. Normally I wouldn’t take them to the office if I was meeting someone, but I knew this gentleman would love to see the boys. So out the door and off we went.
When we were getting ready to leave the park, Kevin called and needed us to go on a parts run. We weren’t far from the store, but hauling four kids into Bomgaar’s was going to be a lot of fun (sarcasm!). It was also getting close to lunchtime and I was soon going to have four hungry boys on my hands. So to town we went. We drove through Jimmy John’s for some lunch and then headed to the store for some nuts and bolts.
Surprisingly everyone cooperated and we made it home before anyone was dying of starvation.
That afternoon was spent outside playing for the big boys while I worked and the twins napped. Then it was time to head to Hudson’s last soccer game of the year. My sisters, Morgan and Megan (who are fraternal twins) came to watch the game too! It was a really nice night for soccer!
After the game we headed home to get ready for bed. After baths, bottles, and books, it was finally bedtime. I tried to work on my computer some more, but ended up falling asleep in the chair until Kevin got in from planting around midnight. What a day! Luckily the twins are usually on the same schedule and are good nappers otherwise I’d really never get anything done!
I know we’ll look back on the days and they will all be a blur, as they are flying by so fast. I wish we could slow down time just a little bit….
