Our 4th of July Celebration

July 7, 2011 By Sara

This past weekend we actually spent at home for the first time ever!  I spent most of Saturday mowing and weeding.  And then on Sunday, since it was raining most of the day, HD and I spent it indoors making salads and cookies and getting ready for our 4th of July party.  That Sunday evening we celebrated Jon’s birthday at Kevin’s parents house down the road.
Then bright and early I walked in the Runderwood 5K in Underwood, IA at 7am.  I was done and back home by 8.  We got all ready and headed back into Underwood for their annual 4th of July parade.  We meet all of Kevin’s family, who was thankfully, camped out in the shade!  It was actually a really nice day, mid-80s but a little humid.
At the start of the parade all of the local fire truck drive through and blast their horns.  As you can see in the picture below, HD has a death grip on Grandpa Greg’s shoulder!  But he seemed to like them other than their horns!

Here are the some cousins, nieces and nephews waiting for some candy to be thrown in their direction!

Here’s the gang that is hanging out in the nice shade!  (That’s where I was too!)

HD didn’t seemed interested in gathering candy with his cousins, so he just sat on Grandpa and Aunt Nancy’s lap the whole time.  (Basically he would sit on whoever’s lap that would give him a snack!)

I guess Daddy must have the snacks now!

From the post it looks like all HD does is eat snacks….he does eat healthy food too!  After the parade we headed home and while HD was napping I got the rest of the things on my list done before our friends started showing up for our party.

HD gobbled down a yummy chocolate chip when he got up from his nap.  He loved it!

Then our friends started showing up and he became buddies with our friend Lisa.

Before dinner that night, we snuck over to a corn field north of our house to snap a few pictures.

While we were out next to the corn field we thought we’d snap a picture in front of this pile of hay.  It was such a beautiful day out!

Then we headed back to the party where HD played with his cousins and friends and we all had a great time.  This year we had a friend smoke some brisket and Kevin also grilled some hotdogs and hamburgers.  I had made a few salads (broccoli, pasta and orange) and also a double batch of chocolate chip cookies.  The cookie recipe is so yummy.  It’s just the recipe on the back of the Nestle Toll House Semi-Sweet Morsels package!

I kind of forgot to take pictures of the food and all of our friends, but everyone was eating and playing games all night long.  Good times!
