Four Family Christmases

December 31, 2013 By Sara

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas last week!  We had a great week full of four family Christmases.  Phew!  Busy, but fun times!
I didn’t blog a lot during the month of December, not because I didn’t want to, but because this month is always so crazy busy for us that I just plain didn’t have time.  The first few weeks of December were filled with HD’s Christmas program at church, two Christmas parties, corn grower meetings for Kevin, Christmas shopping, decorating, baking 40 dozen cookies (in one afternoon), etc.  So by the time December 22nd rolled around, I was ready to head out to my parent’s for Christmas and to relax a little.  Not sure if the relaxing happened at all, but we spent a few days out there with my immediate family.
We celebrated Christmas all together on Christmas Eve by going to the children’s program at church and then coming home and eating soup and opening presents.

We even had a surprise visitor!

Christmas Day morning, we were up bright and early to head home to Kevin’s parent’s house.  We made it there around noon.  Kevin had ordered a couple of Christmas geese to eat on Christmas day with his family.  Since we were traveling the whole morning, the preparing and cooking of the geese rested in his family’s hands.  And they did a wonderful job!  The geese came from some good friends’  family farm.  You can order directly from their website and it will be shipped right to your front door!  Kevin had ordered a smoked goose and also just a plain one.  They were both delicious, but the smoked one was my favorite!  Even HD and AJ loved it!

While we were waiting for dinner to finish baking, we got a few family pictures.  This one is of Great Grandma Marian with her six great grandchildren.

The next picture is of Kevin’s immediate family, and his Grandma, Aunt Cheri, Uncle Roger and cousin Bryan and his wife Kelsey.

When we got home from Christmas at Kevin’s parent’s house on Christmas Day, we had our own little Christmas with just us four.  We couldn’t hardly get AJ off of just new toy to open presents!

After Christmas Day we had a few days off before our last family Christmas.  Actually we had two of them this past Sunday, but could only make it to one.  We made the trek over to Stromsburg, NE for my mom’s family Christmas.  Every single family member was there, including spouses and significant others!  There were 54 people total!  That hasn’t happened in a very long time!  Actually there has never been 54 of us before!  We definitely had to take this opportunity to get Grandma Ruby with her 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren!

From that Christmas celebration we went straight back to Kevin’s parent’s for his cousin, Josie’s, 10th birthday party.  By the time we got home last night, we (Kevin and I) were wore out!

We had a great time this past week with both of our families!  I can’t believe that it’s all over already and that tomorrow is the last day of the year!  I hope you all had a great Christmas and I look forward to 2014 with all of you!
